Adoption Story. |
I have been a Beagle
lover and owner all my life. I grew up with "EZ" our first
beagle. For 14 years she was closer to me then anyone
I've ever known.
She showed me the true love and kindness that only a Beagle
can show. When she pasted away from cancer I was heartbroken.
A year later we were living in Oregon and saw an ad in
the paper that said "Beagle free to good home" and jumped
at it. So we gave them a call and set up a time to meet
them and Bailey.
When we got to their house it was a COLD day below 40
degrees with rain and snow showers. Poor Bailey was sitting
outside in their very small cement back yard on a soaking
wet bed just looking through the glass door. This really
made me mad because anyone who owns a beagle should know
that they do not belong outside. No dog does in that kind
of weather!
Well when she opened the door he ran strait to me, jumped
on the sofa and the lady almost passed out at the fact
he was on the sofa... These people were clearly not the
right kind of people to own a pet. Maybe some fish and
that is about it. Beagle’s need to know they are loved
and a wet bed outside doesn’t cut it!
We start talking about him and she comes out saying he
is a viscous dog and that is why they are getting rid
of him. Yeah, he's viscous alright, I would be too if
you stuck me outside like they did with him.
After we say we will take him home, we go to open the
front door and bam.. off he goes. It freaked her out but
brought back great memories for me lol.
After about 2 hours chasing him around Medford we finally
got him in the car and brought Bailey to his new home.
After about 2 weeks to a month he had settled down and
was able to start to grow himself into the sweetest, smartest
most wonderful pet well, no, he is not a pet... he is
so much more then just a pet. He is a major part of our
family.
He has been with us now for 4 wonderful years. He has
traveled all over the country. He has learned many different
words. You can talk to him and tell him several things
to do and he knows just what you are saying.
Dinner, outside, go for a ride and kitty cat are his favorite
words. He can even howl jingle bells and home on the range
lol.
I have to say that seeing that ad in the paper that day
in Oregon changed my life and it changed Bailey's life
also. If you ever are looking to adopt, Beagle's are the
best breed. You will never find a breed that is as loving,
smart and full of life then a Beagle. Treat them like
you would your child and they will treat you the same.
