Beagles love to go places and dislike being left out
of any family excursion. They learn the signs of a departure
and wait for you at the door and start to get excited
if they know you are going to take them along.
For instance, your beagle will learn that when you
put on your shoes, it is a sure sign that you are going
outside. And, when you pick up the car keys or your
purse, that means you are taking the car and going somewhere.
Your beagle will jump around and howl. He may be at
the door or watch for his leash. He will be very happy
when he realizes you intend to take him along.
A quick trip to the store or mailbox is a happy trip
for your beagle. Remember to never leave your beagle
in a car when the temperature is hot or cold. Beagles
love to be included in all your family activities. They
don’t like to be left alone and will pout if you leave
them. If you must leave them home, leaving the TV or
radio on will help them from becoming lonely. Be sure
to lock the food cabinet and put the garbage out or
have a weighted can to prevent your beagle from getting
in trouble. This will also ensure a happy homecoming.
Beagles hate feeling bad or guilty for being bad.
Beagles are great travelers. Bring their blanket, bed
and favorite toys along and make them a safe spot in
the back seat They will happily sit up and watch out
the window. Beagles are very intelligent and love seeing
new things. They will probably settle down for a nap
if the trip is long.
Stopping to let them out of the car periodically will
give them a fun experience. Always leash your beagle.
Take enough time for them to go the bathroom and exercise.
They will sniff everything and enjoy the new smells.
Give your beagle fresh water and make him comfortable
and you will be ready for the next leg of your trip.
Make sure your beagle feels safe and included in your
trip plans and he will be a great travel companion.
